Amanda Knows ADHD

Amanda White is a Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker with the Board of Behavioral Sciences. She works under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Lucking. Amanda has dealt with her own ADHD which made her academic work challenging. Her growth and development in managing ADHD led her to graduation. This was an uplifting and life-changing experience. Despite Amanda’s challenges in obtaining her higher education, Amanda was able to earn her bachelor’s degree in Public Health Education at Chico State University and her Master’s degree in Social Work with her concentration in Practice and Leadership within Communities and Organizations. Amanda believes that through the mastery of learning how her brain functions she was able to utilize her ADHD symptoms as a tool for her success in acquiring her education. During Amanda’s time at Portland State University, she had the opportunity to travel abroad to Cuba and where she developed her master’s thesis in women’s reproductive rights a comparative analysis of Cuba vs the United States.

Neurodiversity and Social Work

All throughout Amanda’s working life she has served vulnerable population groups including foster youth, and the elderly. Amanda’s specialties include serving neurotypical individuals with neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive/degenerative disorders, couples, infertility and family planning concerns, foster families and youth, adoptive families, sleep disorders, trauma management, traumatic grief, somatic symptoms, and clients interested in spiritual healing. Amanda’s work as a social worker helped her establish her foundational modalities which she encompasses in her work including person-centered care, feminist theory, solutions-focused interventions, family systems theory, and attachment theory.

Collaborative Trauma-Informed Care

Amanda lives by a code and entrenches this into her work “nothing about us without us” and that means that she ensures her clients are involved in every aspect of their treatment plan and case management. Amanda ensures all of her clients are treated as unique individuals involved in every part of their treatment process and curates a customized intervention based on her client’s needs. Amanda has specialized additional training in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral therapy, reiki, crisis, and suicide prevention training from her volunteer work with the crisis texts line. In her free time, Amanda enjoys spending time traveling, quality time with her family and dogs, physical fitness, and time in nature hiking or camping. Amanda believes in “wholeness” and that the mind and body are connected and encourages her clients to focus on inner and outer healing through physical and clinical intervention suggestions/strategies, Amanda is in the process of acquiring new skills and implementing these into her future work including yin yoga, guided meditations, healing sound baths, EMDR, and ACT therapy.
