Emily Heard (she/her) is a couples therapist who specializes in working with Neurodiverse couples and also parenting. She works under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Lucking, PhD who is a published author, speaker, and expert in the field of Neurodiversity. Emily supports NT partners who are struggling with OTRS (Ongoing Traumatic Relationship Syndrome). Emily uses the Island of Shared meaning model that Dr. Lucking created to support ND relationships and partners to bridge the Neurodiverse gap that these relationships struggle with. She believes the secret to a loving partnership is cultivating authentic communication skills, building deep trust, and encouraging loving and honest connection.

Emily is also experienced working with individuals with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, fertility challenges, grief, postpartum depression, and the unique challenges those issues bring to a relationship. She offers a trauma-informed, anti-racist, queer-allied approach to therapy, supporting LGBTQ+ and interracial couples.

Emily holds a Master’s degree in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. Her practice integrates transpersonal spirituality, trauma-informed neuroscience, and evidence-based modalities.

Emily has advanced training and certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) therapy, Maternal Mental Health, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), The Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

She has over a decade’s experience as a yoga and mindfulness meditation teacher, a Master’s degree in Ayurvedic Medicine, and previously worked as a birth doula and massage therapist. Her work is rooted in somatic therapy, which acknowledges the connection between mental and physical health.
